TO-DAY'S BUSINESS

The first Order of the Day in the House of Representatives to-day is the consideration of the amendments made by the Legislative Council to the Mortgages Final Extension Bill, the chief of which restored the date for. the expiry of the' moratorium to. 31st "December next. It will be recalled that when the Bill left the Lower House it provided for an extension until 31st July, ig2s. If the House of Representatives 'decides to disagree with the Council's amendments a committee will be set up to prepare reasons explaining the disagreement, and managers will be appointed to confer with managers from the Council on the points' "at" issue". Considerable interest, attaches to the action of the Council in amending the Bill in the way it has done, especially as failure to reach a compromise may result in the •Joss- of- the-measure. The- Gaming Amendment Bill, which.the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. R. F. Bollard) stated yesterday is to be referred to a .Committee for consideration, is to come up for its second reading to-day If time permits, the Dentists' Amendment Bill and the Stamp Duties Amendment Bill are to be committed.
