PUSHING AUSTRALIAN FRUITS. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPXEIOHT.) acSTRALUN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received 29th September, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, 27th September. The Australian dried fruit trade-' is dull, following weaker reports of the Greek and Smyrna markets. Australian fruits are quoted: Sultanas, 42s to 48s ; currants, 45s to 50s; lexias, 40s to 4&. Considerably higher prices could ba obtained for good quality fruit; but, unfortunately, practically none is offering. In order to popularise Australian fruits, ■ the Australian Dried Fruits Association has decided-to place them pa the market in "nominal" pound cartons'. These will be supplied to retailers at 9s per dozen for all fruits. It is hoped that this convenient package will appeal to consumers. Retailers will be encouraged to maka special window displays of these "Australian Dried Fruit Association Sunraysed fruits." There will bo supplied attractive show cards, recipe booklets, handbills, and advertisements will be inserted in ttfade newspapers, urging grocers to push th&°e"Empire goods, anS reap the benefit of the wonderful publicity caused by the tremendous distribution of sample cartons at Wembley." .Some large wholesale grocers are not particularly enthusiastic about this method of selling, as they say previous experiences in pushing proprietary articles have not been altogether satisfactory. They also question whether the public will ba willing to pay the prices asked. ' -
