CHINESE TEAM WIN
MARLBOROUGH DEFEATED IN FINAL MATCH. BLENHEIM, 27th September. Before an attendance of some 3000 people the Chinese Soccer team „registered their first win in the the South Island against Marlborough to-day. Heavy rain preceding the game made the .ground greasy, and militated against a high-class exposition of the game. The visitors showed considerable brilliance both in attack and defence. They swept their opponents aside at will, and only the splendid defence of the Marlborough backs and of their goalie saved a bigger score. Half-way through the first spell honours were even, and then Wang trapped smartly from a corner kick and shot low and fast, beating the Marlborough goalkeeper. The half-time score was 1-nil. Play in the second spell was uot so fast. The Chinese shot again and again unsuccessfully. Marlborough launched one good attack, and were unfortunate in failing to score. The game ended without further score.
