FELLOWSHIPS CONFERRED
NEW ZEALANDERS HONOURED.
NEW YORK, 25th October. The College of Surgeons elected 636 new Fellows, among whom were 14 Australians and nine New Zealanders. Honorary Fellowships were conferred upon Dr. Carrick .Robertson and Sir Lindo Ferguson, of, New Zealand, and Drs. Ralph Worrall and Hamilton Russell, of Australia.
The conferment of the honorary Fellowships was impressively carried out in the Waldorf Hotel auditorium. Afterwards Dr. Mayo emphasised that the chief purpose of the college is idealism, and the elevation of the professional standards of service. Ho paid a tribute to the work of the trans-Pacific surgeons. Dr. Royle's principle was a great achievement. It was a bridge leading ever to new and valuable discoveries. The medical world had sufficient technique, but needed ideas, for which the world owed a debt of gratitude to the Australians and New Zealanders, who had erected a milestone on the road of modern surgery. Those elected to membership of the college include Drs. Aickin and Neil of Auckland. Dr. Douglas, of Hamilton, Drs. Collins, Elliott, Herbert, and M'Gavin, of Wellington, and Drs. Barnett and Rutherford, of Dunedin.
