TELEGRAPH.—PRESS 'ASSOCIATION.) - : ; AUCKLAND, This Day. v;A hurricane "which caused considerable damage- was encountered in the Atlantic by the. steamer Orari during her;, voyage frpm Liverpool to Auckland. .. ZUhe Orari cleared Newport News on 23rd August. Two days out she ran into a • hurricane,- ■ - and was- ■ hove-to for* ■18 • hours. Seas of immense size and force ■washed' the-decks, and she rolled and pitched in an alarming manner. Such-was the force of the tempest that the ladders and all the rails at the forecastle head were washed away, lifeboats ■were set adrift on deck, and one was • stoye-in.,",Hardl^.any of the small, deck fittings escaped damage. All the storerooms and forecastle were flooded. No. 1 hatch was stove-in. ■ Temporary, repairs were effected with great difficulty and risk. Next morning the vessel had a list to port of seven degrees. -■ • ■ • ■ The weather moderated sufficiently for her to continue. She arrived at Colon on Ist September, and the remainder of liie voyage was uneventful.
