The Thomas Cawthron Trust Bill was reported; to the Legislative Council yes-: terday afternoon by a special committee with material amendments. Clauses 2 to: 6 are entirely re-constnicted. '-'.

The Bill,; as. amended, constitutes a body corporate under the name of .the Cawthron Institute Trust Board, consti-! tuted as follows:—Each of the .present1 trustees, who shall-act!;in. his ■personal' capacity until he dies, resigns, or ceases' to reside permanently in the Nelson province; the: persons holding for the time being, the respective, offices "'of Mayor of Nelson, 'chairman of the Wai-' mea County Council, and- member of Parliament, for Nelson, and also the,persons for the time being, holding the offices .of .Anglican Bishop of -"Nelson",' chairman of the Nelson Harbour Board, when these offices 'cease to be held respectively by Bishop Sadlier and Mr. H. R. Duncan,;, one. member of the Legislative Council,- .to ,;be ! appointed: *- It is provided that /.no : casual:! or temp orary vacancy in/the membership of the board shall affect the corporate existence and continuity of the board. When the number of members is reduced to less than! ten the. .Governor-General may appoint" members.to the board- to fill the vacancies, -provided that, the number of such appointments does not exceed three/ and that .the totalVmembership does not exceed ten.:, A. member, appointed, by the Goverrior-Genei-al shall hold office for .threeyears, and.; shall be eligible for. reappointment. If there is only one member ,:■ of, the Legislative.: Council^'re--sident in;the: Nelson district he shall be appointed byHhe Speaker of: the Council, but if, there is' more than one such member of the; council the- Speaker, is to select one of their number.
