SOUTH AFRICAN WAR VETERANS
ANNUAL CONFERENCE.
The annual conference of delegates of | the South African War Veterans1 Association was continued yesterday after-1*! noon at the Lyceum Clubroom, Mr J A Simson presiding. Various remits attecting th e position of members of the association and the future of the organisation were dealt with. I
Mr J. A. Simson (Hastings) was reelected president, a position he has held since the formation of the association. Major E. G. Fraser (Auckland), Captain J. J. Clark (Wellington), and Dr. falconer (Dunedin) were elected vicepresidents. The committee set up comprised all the delegates present, with an executive consisting of Captain J. J. Clark, Lieutenant-Colonel D. C. Bates. Rev. A. W, H. Compton, and Messrs. D. M'lntyre, and W. Tilling. Mr. S P V. Aston, F.I.A. (Wellington) was appointed honorary auditor.
The visiting delegates were entertained at afternoon tea by tho local members of the association.
Speaking at a reunion in the evening, Mr. D. C. Bates, who presided, said the objects of the association.-and the conference were to secure the future of the South African veterans and promote good fellowship amongst the members of the organisation. They were only seeking, he said, to get similar concessions to those who fought in the Great War. The legislation was actually on the Statute Book, but had not been put into force for want of the necessary proclamation. Interesting addresses were delivered by Messrs. J. J. Clark, J. Simson, G. R. Cresswell, and E. G. Fraser. A number of musical items was rendered, and an enjoyable social evening was spent.
