TO-DAY'S PROCEEDINGS

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. to-day.

The Hon. 0. Samuel, who occupied the chair in the unavoidable absence of the Speaker, said that a number of telegrams had been received addressed to the Speaker and members of the Council on the subject of a Bill now before the Council, evidently intended to influence the Council in its deliberations upon the measure. Mr. Samuel pointed out that the proper method of addressing the Council was by petition. [The Leader of the Council, Sir Francis Bell, gave notice of his intention to introduce the Trustee Amendment Bill.

Four days' leave of absence were granted to the Hon. R. Scott on account of urgent public business, and two days' leave of absence to the Hon. E. W. Alison on account of urgent private business.

Tbo Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland Empowering Bill, and the • Roman Catholic Bishop of Dunedin Empowering Bill, conferring powers in regard to lands, were read a. second time. The Imprest Supply Bill (No. 2) was introduced and put through all its stages and passed. (Left Sitting.)
