The Trentham-trained Lady Gay, who is. engaged in the hack and flat events at the Christchurch Hunt Club and Grand National Meetings, was shipped South on Monday. Gluement, who is about the only Blenheim representative at the meeting, goes South to-night.
The racing chronograph luade by T. Gaunt and' Co., Pty., Ltd., for the Wellington Racing Club, will be installed in time for use at the Spring Meeting in October. The.dial is 36in in diameter, and shows the time of a race to a quarter of a second. The hands are automatically set in action by the rising of the, barrier, and stopped at the finish by the timekeeper. Broadwood, the Auckland candidate for the Winter Cup, i s galloping well at Riccarton. Yesterday, in company with Prince Ferouz, he covered six furlongs in limn 18 2-ssec, which was the best time for the distance named during the morning. Mr. x. Bevan, president of the Levin Racing Club, was in town yesterday. He informed the writer that although the club now had only one day as against two formerly, thanks to the financial assistance - received from the Wellington Racing Club, it had been able 'to improve the track at Weraroa, and put up better buildings. It was hoped to be able to give better stakes at the annual meeting to be held on sth November. Kovno is well engaged at Riccarton. At the Hunt. Meeting he is in the Lawford Steeplechase, Kennels Hurdles, and Homeby Steeplechase. In the last-nam-ed event he has 81b above the minimum, and is in rceipt of over three stone from Pamplona. If Pamplona can win with 12.9, he must take a lot of beating in the big race at Riccarton. Mr. JohnM'Mahon, chief stipendiary steward, was on a business visit to the city yesterday. It may not be generally known that prior to coming to the Dominion Mr. M'Mahon handicapped for the clubs in the Clarence River district, where he has a station, for over twenty years. He imported Wauken Phast, an English horse, and the New Zealander, Machine Gun to the Gra'fton district, and both were stud successes. Mr. M'Mahon, who has been here twelve years, hoped to assist at the Clarence River Meeting this month, but was unable to get away. Trentham trainer D. M'Cauley will get a-way with his" team of three for the Riccarton Meetings on Wednesday next. Mr. W. Keller, a steward of the Westland Racing Club, was on a visit to the Empire City this week. Mr. W. G. Stead is.sending half a dozen horses to Sydney on Bth August, in charge of H. Neagle, who is also taking Watchman and First Salute.
