BATHERS' PRIVILEGES
EVANS BAY RECLAMATION.
An undertaking that the grievance of the Evans Bay Swimming Club in regard to the proposed reclamation, which, it was claimed, would considerably limit bathing' facilities in the Bay, would ioceive full consideration was given by tho Eastern Suburbs League at their annual meeting last evening. Mr. Chrisp, club captain of tho E.B.S.C., outlined the proposals of the Harbour Board, by which a large area of the bay would be reclaimed, and submitted plans showing the alterations which such work would make in the configuration of the bay, In putting the case for the club, he said that they were thinking not of themselves but of the children of the future, who would want opportunity of learning to swim. There was a crying need for more accommodation for swimmers in Evans Bay, and yet, if the plans for reclamation went through, the proposed clubhouse would be left "high.and dry." The object of the deputation was to ask tho league to oppose the' carrying out of the scheme.
A member remarked that the club would have the use of the clubhouse for probably ten or fiftepn years before tho reclamation was completed, but if the expansion of the city demanded such reclamation, it was going to be a very hard thing to oppose.
The chairman, Mr. A. C. Blake, promised that the matter would be given full consideration, and support if the association's representatives thought fit. It was resolved_ that a letter be sent to the club, setting forth the approval of the league of the erection of a clubhouse, and supporting efforts to secure access thereto.
