KIWI PRESENTED
A most enthusiastic social function in honour of the All Blacks was held in the Town Hall last evening. Nearly one thousand people, gave the footballers a rousing reception when they arrived at the hall, and all followed the lead of the band by joining in singing "For ihey Are Jolly Uopd Fellows." ' Dancing provided much enjoyment, and the evening was a distinct success. Durin" the proceedings Mr. T. W. Leslie handed to C. E. Badeley a kiwi mascot, and in explaining that it signified opening the gates to good' luck, he made a request that the mascot be placed under the goal-posts in every match. The All Blacks, he considered, would need no extra back now that they had that kiwi, which would give the opposition, no possible chance of scoring. In a happy speech Mr. Badeley expressed thanks for the gift, made on behalf of Messrs. Hanna and.King, and he also thanked Messrs. Thomas, and Leslie for one of the best evenings that the "All Blacks had enjoyed. . The hospitality extended to the team in Wellington had been greatly appreciated. Cheers for the All Blacks concluded a very happy function. : , .
