CITY FIRES

The Fire Brigade received, a" call at 1.55 a.m. to-day to No. 6, Willis street, owned and occupied by John R. Johnson, cabinetmaker. The first floor and its contents were severely damaged, and the contents on the ground floor were damaged by water. The cause of the fire is not known. The building is insured in the North British for £3000, and the contents are insured in the Commercial Union for £1200.

Hot cinders from the grate were responsible for <i room and its contents being damaged at 81, Arp street at 2.25 o'clock this morning. The house, a fiveroomed residence, is occupied by Sarah Elizabeth Riddle, and is owned by Jacob Gotlieb. The contents are covered for £400 in the South British, and the building is insured for a similar amount in the New Zealand office.
