CHANGEABLE CONDITIONS
Weather conditions have shown an improvement since Saturday, but. they cannot be accepted as settled, as the Director of the Meteorological Office (Mr. D. G. Bates) issues a warning that a westerly, btorm may develop about the middle of the week. Barometric gradient has increased during the past twentyfour hours. tli3 barometer having continued to rise in the North, and having fallen in the South. Dull, cold, and squally conditions have prevailed on all the western coast, with strong southwesterly to north-we.sterly winds. In :he East Coast districts, however, the weather has been fair generally. The forecast is for unsettled conditions, squally and changeable, with showers, especially on all the western coast, and in the southern districts. The barometer ib likely to rise temporarily in the North, but may remain unsteady in the South, falling and rising, and then falling everywhere. It is probable that a westerly storm may develop about themiddle of the week. In .the meantime westerly winds are probable. Np rain fell in Wellington during the twentyfour hours preceding 9 a.m. to-day, but there were falls in other places, as follow : —Wanganui 6 points, Foxton 4 points, Westport 1.10 inches, Greymouth 57 points, and Arthur's Pass 96 points. It has been raining in the northern districts, but the quantities have not been telegraphed.
