His Excellency the Governor-General has returned to Wellington, and will be in residence here during the session' of Parliament.
The Postmaster-General (the Hon. J. G-. Coates) arrived from the North on Saturday night.
Mr. T. -K. Sidey, M.P., arrived from Dunedin yesterday.
Colonel Allen Bell, M.P., for Bay of Islands, has arrived iv Wellington for the session.
The Hon. C. E. Stalham, Speaker of the House of Representatives, was a passenger from tlie South by the ferry steamer Maori yesterday morning.
Mr. William Winstone (81), one of the founders of the carting firm of Winstone and Company, Auckland, is dead. —Press Association.
Di1. J. Ritson, general secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society, is a through passenger to the United States by the Tahiti, which arrived at Wellington this morning from Sydney.
The death, is announced from Auckland of Captain Walter Fvater, aged 87, who for many years was in business with his brother.
Mr. E. A. Mason, first assistant at the Hutt High School, has been appointed headmaster of the Lansdowne School, Masterton. Mr. F. P. Rogers, of the Newall School, Taranaki, has been appointed first assistant.
Mr. E. A. Little, a member of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union, who is to act as manager of the New Zealand team during the visit to Sydney, received a presentation from members of the Oriental Club on Saturday. The ' recipient was congratualted upon the appointment which he had received, and he was also praised for the interest lie had taken in the affairs of the Oriental Club. . He would , carry with him the best wishes of all Oriental1 players and supporters.
■ -■The death occurred -on Wednesday last, afc his residence, Coromandel street, of Mr. F. C. Eouth, late printer and bookbinder, of Wellington. A son of the late Mr.' Joseph Eouth, of Wandsworth, London, Mr. Routb was born in London in 1843. He served his apprenticeship with the well-known firm of Sir Francis Wyatt", Truscott, and Sons, London. After a short period in business on -his own account in London, Mr. Routh migrated to the colonies, landing in Melbourne in .1874. Soon after he crossed over to Wellington, and for some years was associated with the late firm . 'of Messrs. Lyon and Blair. He again started in business for himself in 1885 and retired in 1906. Only last year, at the age of 80, he undertook an extended tour to the Old Country, accompanied by Mrs. Routh. In his earlier days Mr.'Routh, was a prominent Freemason,,and members of Lodge Wellington attended: the funeral and paid their last tribute of respect to his memory. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends will go out to his widow in her bereavement.
