The Industrial Conference at .the Trades Hall. Mr. Beasley, the president of the Labour Council, being in the chair, resolved against the pre-eelectioa of Labour Parliamentary candidates.. ■ One delegate ■ suggested ■ thatI.' there should be inquiries regarding the moral character of candidates, and. declared that during a visit to Parliament House he had seen Labour members tumbling about the corridors, drunk. The confer^ ence decided that inquiries should, be made concerning "the character 'of the candidates in relation to the Labour movement, but not regarding- their moral character.
The Canadian provincial elections resulted in the return of 19 Liberals, 15 Conservatives, 3 Labour, 3 Provincials, and 2 Independents. Six seats are doubtful. A plebiscite was taken at the same time on the proposed sale of beer by the glass. This was apparently defeated in Vancouver/and Victoria, whilst other cities voted decisively against it. . .
