UTILITY AND FANCY BREEDS

The poultry section of the Show is generally agreed by enthusiasts to be the best held in point of numbers, quality, and variety. Included are birds of the fancy and utility breeds, with eggproducing capacity or specially suited ior the table. The show of ducks is lather limited in the number of exhibits, but is excellent in quality. Canaries anil pigeons, a strong feature, excited considerable interest. A difference of opinion -between the judges as to the best bird in the utility section was settled by consultation with other judges and resulted in the choice of the Rhode Island as against the Orpington as the ideal bird for the purpose intended for the special award. There were not many exhibitors from Wellington and vicinity. The canaiy judge complained of the exhibition of Yorkshire canaries in Norwich cages, and insisted on the birds being exhibited in orthodox cages.
