AUCKLAND'S NEEDS

AUCKLAND, This Day. An influential deputation representing ihe University College and various local bodies interviewed Mr. Massey and the' Hon. C. J. Parr, and urged the needs of Auckland in respect of an agricultral college and improvement in ' the status .of the School of Engineering. Mr. Parr said his own opinion was that for rhany years Auckland's speciality was in the direction of agriculture. He v-ould strongly' favour special facilities being given. Auckland University to specialise in agricultural science. The Engineering School at Auckland was doing good work, and he would not be averse to a moderate expenditure upon
The Premier said had it not been for the war there would have been by this time at least ono agricultral college in the North Island. He was willing as head of the Government and Finance Minister to do all he possibly could" to assist. , TheVe should be at least one; if not two agricultural colleges in the North Island. He suggested a small committee to go-' into the whole subject. Meanwhile he was only able •lo express the'hope that something would be done. He hoped before long that some practical proposals would be placed before Parliament.
