REGULATIONS TO COME' INTO : FORCE, ■ In April, 1923; an Order-in-Council,.-is-. sued by the Minister of Health, provided for the inspection and registration of all- premises used for, the preparation of food to be consumed on the spot, and a further "Gazette" .notice last November formally applied, the new regulations to Wellington, Ibu.t there the ', matter stood for a time. From Ist' July, however, ,the iregulations will be enforced, the respon; sibuity for their being applied being cast' upon the local .authority of each district —m the-case of Wellington,1 the. There are'in the city 117 eatin? houses and restaurants comins; within, tfie scope ;of the regulations, and as the inspection covers; a, very wide field the special inspector recently'appointed by the coun: cil will be kept steadily; busy ;pn this work. .Further regulation's may be made by the Minister, .under' the po.wera ,given /by the Health Act,. as lie thhlks fit, but already' the' matters ' into .which the inspector, must inquire. build up a lengthy list. Among thee items are the storage and ■ preparation, of food, the: cohdiljion that no nuisance is likely, to b<s capsetl by the use of the premises as an eatins house, sufficiency of floor, space, window lighting, ventilation, nature of floor and.walis, sinks, cleansing, coIW tion of garbage, separate storage of such foodstuffs as milk, "butter, and 'cream, etc It is;laid-down, in ha,rd and fast style that no person . suffering from . a communicable disease may be .employed in an eating,house. .
