BURKE GUILTY ON ONE CHARGE.
Tlio hearing was concluded in the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon of the charga against Francis Osman Burke that he .stole £5 from the' person of John Singleton, and a pocket-book 'con. tainmg various papers from Israil Gelhor, on • the afternoon and evening of 19th December last, respectively. Mr P S K. M,acassey prosecuted, and Mr' j' A. Scott represented accused. The Chief Justice (Sir.Robert Stout), was on the Bench.1 ' ' - •
After hearing, evidence'towards establishing |an alibij and ■counsel's addresses, the jury disagreed,on 'the first charge, but found accused guilty on the second charge of theft of a pocket-book. , Sentence was deferred until Saturday.
