GENERAL BRAMWELL BOOTH ARRIVES
ACCORDED CIVIC RECEPTION
A happy and characteristic Salvation Army welcome was accorded General Bramwell Booth,' head of the world's Salvation Army organisstion, when he •wived at Thorndon yesterday afternoon. Not alone were members of the ■various city organisations present, for the holding of the annual territorial conference has gathered something like 500 officers from other centres in Wellington at the present time. The General was greeted with loud cheers and the singing of "We^Won't Let the Old Flag Fall." With him were.: Commissioner H. W. Mapp (international secretary for India and the Dominions), Brigadier J. Evans Smith (private secretary to" the General), Brigadier J. Imrie (immigration officer for Australia), Staff-Captain J. Hawkins (of the editorial department at International Headquarters), Adjutant Wycliffe Booth (the General's youngest «on), and two Indian officers, Staff-Cap-tain Derji and Adjutant David. There were no long speeches of welcome, and indeed none was necessary to emphasise the hearty greetings, and the chief, too, was brief in his expression of thanks. "Dear comrades/ he said, "I am really pleased to see you' all once more. . . . May we have a great visitation. The great thing about the Salvation Army is that it has a living call to every man and woman. God bless you all. I shall see you to-mor-row."
General Booth will be the chief guest and speaker at a New Zealand Club luncheon on Monday next.
