MOTORISTS VICTIMISED
LOCAL TAX PROTESTED AGAINST:

Mr. C. M. Banks said the. motorists did not agree with the principle, but thought-the Hutt: road" was .good busiiira's for the money, and they;got it immediately, instead of having to \vdit for five; years. As a Wellington Associa-. tion member, ■he agreed with this road and the tax,-.but, as a union delegate ; he could'-not'agree with 'the principle. Mr. Donne said the rnotbrists; did not miWd paying the tax if the. local bodies paid their, share. ■ '-. ■■.

The following',motion moved by. Mr'. Banks was passed :':'.'That, in.View of the promise made, by the Minister of Public Works that no local body will be permitted to ■ levy » ; tax on motorists after the Government taxation is imposed under the proposed Motor Vehicles Act the Minister be requested to abolish the fee payable by motorists under tha Hutt Road .Act. as soon as the Motor .Veludes ' Act is passed." ■ ' ',"•':-' Concerning the Hutfr road' traffic, the chaxrman remarked that after the unfortunate accident last Saturday they would have to look out-to see that the auth--orifaes did.not fix.some rediculously low speed for road. He thought 30 miles per hour was a fair thin.' ■•■
