TRAMWAYS DEFEAT NAVY

Keen and interesting Rugby was provided by teams representing* the Kavy. and the Tramways at Athletic Park yesterday afternoon. Both teams were strong, and good combination was shown, making ths game very enjoyr able for a large cro\vd~of spectators. The Tramways team included a number^ of local seniors—Walters, J. Hickling, "Doc" Nicholls,, Juno, Hayden, Whiterod, Peacock, \V. Malm, and'Barr. They were, therefore, no light proposition for the visitors, but the men from ' the Navy, who adopted the English formation, offered strong resistance, and made many manoeuvres which gave' trouble to the local players. The first spell was evenly-contested, though Tramways obtained a score as the result of a. good combined effort, to which Hickling put the finishing touch. ' The try was not converted. A strenuous second half was more, favourable to Tramways, who added nine more points, Juno and Malm each scoring an unconverted try, and "Doc" Nicholis kicking a penalty. The final result was: Tramways 12, Navy nil.

the teams were:—Navy: Full-back, Hobbs; three-quarters, Down, Percival Brown, Sadler; halves, Usher Ham, Vince; forwards, M'Taggart " Bowen, Burch, Paffard, Arnold, Gothan. Pollard, Raymond.
