ERROR IN CHART

BLAMED FOR STRANDING OF

STEAMER.

(DNIT2D PRBSS ASSOCIATION.—COPIIUGHT.) (Beceived-lst May, 8 a.m.)

SYDNEY,'3Oth April. At the Marino Court inquiry into the stranding of the steamer Truth, Captain Hudson, who was in command of tho vessel, gave evidence that NatlearaReef, outside Port Moresby, where the Prutli struck, was incorrectly charted, and was from three to five miles out of tile position marked on the chart.

The Court found that Captain Hudson had committed an error of judgment in changing his course, as a stranger' to the locality should have given the reef a wider berth. He was therefore deserving of censure, but there was no wilful default. The Court was also of opinion that attention should be drawn to the alleged error on the Admiralty chart. ■
