EMPRESS THEATRE.
■\ A thrilling story of the Turf is told in "Long Odds," screening to-day for the last time at' the Empress Theatre. The supporting items include scenes of the Special Service Squadron: entering Sydney Harbour, and the sinkin" of H.M.A.S. Australia. . ' "PONJQLA." . . "Ponjola," a picturisation of Cynthia Stockley's masterpiece of South African life, will, be the feature at: the Empress Theatre to-morrow. ■ "Ponjola" is a stirring story of action and romance staged in the Rhodesian goldfields. While its title is taken from the native name for liquor, the play is in no way a preachment against intoxicants. The iplay centres about an English needlewoman, who masquerades as a man, arid as such lives for months with the hardened characters of. the veldt, fighting the curse of ponjola. **It is interpreted by an allstar cast, including James Kirkwood, Anna Q. Nilsson, fully Marshall, Ruth Clifford, and Joseph Kilgour. The supporting programme is of high merit, and Mr.' M. Dixon., of the Empress Syinphohy Orchestra, has arranged a fine programme of music. 1 The box.plan is at The Bristol till 5 p.m., after which hour seats may be reserved at the theatre.
