I wonder how many know that there is an Australian restaurant in London? asks a woman writer in "Overseas." It is tucked away in a basement just off the Strand, ml Savdy street, beside the offices .of Western Australia, where, the mother-of-pearl shells are displayed in tlie window. Miss Imrie, who runs the restaurant, as.it happens, is a New Zealander, but she has travelled so widely; and has studied the whole question of Empire food production in so many parts of the world, at first liand, that I expect she could say with more.truth than most of us, "The Empire'is my country." The restaurant is attractively , got up, and is bright and cheerrul. There is an overseas atmosphere about the place, very pleasant and homelike to a, wandering Briton. There, too, interesting dishes are to bo had, and I can confidently recommend the fruit salad, which is the best I have ever tasted' in England. jNliss Imrie makes the salads and the" omelettes herself and gives personal attention to her guests. She is ready -at any time to suggest'and-supply Empire menus, for meals large or small, so that if any travellers from the far parts of the world want to give stay-at-home Britons something original in the way of a dinner, all they have to -do is to visit the Australian restaurant, where ' they will bo supplied with Toheroa soup from New Zealand, South African crab, West Australian beef, and passion fruit salad, to mention only a icw..
