ELECTRIC POWER FOR WAIRARAPA

Messrs., P. H. .Smith,, secretary-man-ager, and H R. Climie, engineer, of the Waira'rapa Power Board, waited on the Minister of Public Works, Hon. J. G. Coates, to-day, in reference to expediting the supply of electric power from Mangahao to the Wairarapa district, in view of the large prospective demand for power that has been encouraged, by the operation of the-board's present standby electric plant. A number of large power consumers are anxious to take a supply, and these demands will have to be turned down until the supply from Mangahao is assured. Mr. A. D. M'Leod, M.P., introduced,, the deputation. # It was seated that advice had been received that there would be no power from.. Mangahao supplied to the Wairarapa until June, 1925. The board wish to have an assurance that power will be available in December- next. The Minister replied that he would get, the Chief Electrical Engineer, Mr. Jj. Birks, to consider various methods of carrying out the construction of the power line. It .was suggested that the power board might take over the contract^for the erection of the main transmissiSn litie, in which case a supply oE power will be available by tho cud of tiiii year. . • . <
