LADIES' ASSOCIATION.
■ A most enthusiastic and crowded audience was present 'at the. annual general meeting of 'the Wellington Ladies' Basket Ball Association, held on Wednesday night.. Mrs. M'lnneijs (Y.W.C.A;.), : president of the association, • was id the chair. ' ' f : ' ■ ' ■.'.', ' . > The annnal report referred to the highly successful season last year, nearly 250 young ladies playing every Saturday throughout a long and strenuous season." The shortage of referees was a matter of some anxiety to the executive, and ladies interested .in the sport were appealed to in this connection:- Last year the number of referees was so smaE "that each was frequently called on. to act for as many as three ox even, four matches in pne day. This is quite a test of endurance for first-class matches, and ex-players prepared to act as referees,1 even for one Saturday a month, would be welcome. The balance-sheet showed a satisfactory state of affairs financially, but the president expressed the hope that the clubs would.support the executive more effectually this year to improve the financialposition. . >.■•"-■ ;The election of officers resulted as follows:—President,; Mrs. M'lnnes (unopposed).; vice-presidents, Mrs.; Monks Miss Armstrong, Miss Thompkins; committee, Misses Wilkie,'M. Tait, Taylor Scarpe; secretary,, Miss Crumpton. '■ The president announced that thero would be at least 16 clubs comprising about 30 teams* playing during the coming season. . .: ' , ..
