DOMINION APPLICATION.

A complete settlement was. effected before the Conciliation'fCommkfiioner (Mr. W. Newton) last evening ,iri the Dominion clothing trade dispute. '„, The settler/Pent is'in the main along the lines of the prespnt award. The clauses relating to hours of work and classification of workers ■ are to remain as at present. . The term of appi'enticcship for tailoresses was altered from two years''apprenticeship and two years' -improvership- to three yenrs' ' apprenticeship and one year's improvership. The wages of female apprentices and, improvers were fixed as follow:—First six months, 15s per week; second, 17s-6d; third, 20s; fourth, 22s 6d; fifth, 255; sixth, 27s 6d; seventh, 30s; eighth, 355. •It was provided that no worker over the age. of twenty-one years should be paid less than £1 7s 6d per week. A new apprenticeship clause was added providing that np deduction shall be made from a female ; apprentice's wages except for time lost through sickness or default. The journeywoman's minimum wage was agreed upon as £2 4s per week; an increase of Is 6d. Second-class chart ■] cutters are to receive £4 7s r6d per week instead of £4 3s 8d as, previously, and stock 'cutters ond trimmers £4'4s instead of £4L Cutters' overtime remains at itime and a half for the first three hours and double time thereafter. . ' ' . Male machinists, are to receive £4 "4s per week, an increase of 4s. The ap-' prenticeship clause \vas referred to the Court for a special order under the new Act. ■; ■''■.' ■ ' | - •Pressers and oilers' minimum wages were.agreed upon at £4 4s per week, or Is lid per hour. No female; is to be employed for more than.four hours in any one day at seam-opening.by hand or at under-pressing. This is not to affect workers at present employed in the industry, nor is it. to prevent whole-time employment of females in ■ seam-operiing machines.
