Lollard, has assented to - a special race ■ meeting being held at Treritham on Saturday, 26th April, .as part of the festivities. m-connection with the visit of the Special-Service Squadron to' this port.. -As, there are some 3000 sailors and between .300: and 400 officers attached to the squadron, special train 'arrangements will be made to convey the visitors to lre:itham. It is anticipated by members of the committee that this will prove an interesting form of entertainment for the men, of the Navy, and'as they march down the course they will no doubt receive a most hearty welcome. The Wellington Racing Club has provided an attractive programme, which will probably, include a steeplechase. The club -purposes entertaining the whole of the officers and men -, to luncheon. A proposal has been submitted, which will probably be given effect to, that ladies be admitted free to all the enclosures usually reserved for members. Trentham as it is now equipped has become one of-the--most.picturesque courses in the Dominion. The Admiral and officers will'lunch in the members' room, and special provision has been made for the accommodation of the large number of sailors who will be present. Given fine weather, it is expected that one of the largest crowds even seen at Trentham will attend, and the meeting should be a pleasant one to the visitors. ■ It has also been decided'that the Canterbury Park Trotting Club shall hold a meeting on the following Saturday, 3rd Ma-y, on the occasion of the warships' visit to Lyttelton. Totalisator permits have been given for the two meetings.
