DESERTING FIREMEN
SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT.
" The ship went into the stream at- 7 a.m., and her departure for London was held up till 4.30 p.m.,"remarked Mr. F. Prince, of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Co., this'morning, when Harry Roscoe" and Edmund- Willis, two firemen, were charged before Mr. E. Page, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court with deserting from the steamer Tainui. Mr. Prince added that the company had been put to expense by keeping a launch standing by and running taxi-cabs hunting for firemen. "These two men were before the Court last week for refusing duty " added the witness. "We did, not press the charge;- Because 'we had a'guarantee that we would have no more bother with them, but six deserted immediately after- ' wards." - - •■
Each; "accused was sentenced to one month s imprisonment. > ' " .
