Newman was quietest to accustom himself to. his surroundings. Clark M'Conacliy (New Zealand^ made a poor show at tiie first session^ his best break being 100, and his average 20, compared with Newman's 37. 'M'Conacliy in the evening showed a remarkable revival of form, his breaks including 346 and 124. Newman's best was 237. (Received 9th April, 11.30 a.m.) ' LONDON, Bth April. At the close of to-day's play Newman (in play) had scored 2668, and M'Conacliy 2208.
