JUSTICES' ASSOCIATION

MEETING OF WELLINGTON BODY.

The annual meeting of tho Honorary Justices' Association (Wellington district) was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.) presiding. The annual report stated that during the year much work had been accomplished, which had improved the status of justices. The council desired to place, on record its thanks for the courtesy extended to" members by the Hon. the Speaker of the House of Representatives, who had invited the representatives to attend the opening of Parliament. The council had at present under consideration the matter of the holding of a Dominion conference of justices, and had deputed the registrar to visit Dunedin, Invercargill, and other towns in the South Island to assist in tbe formation of justices' associations. The association continued fraternal relationsliip with the Australian Justices' Associations. The year closed with 306 members, which was an increase of 61. Three members were lost through removal from the district, and three by death, namely, Messrs A. 0. Considine, O. H. Mackenzie, and W. H. Simcox To the relatives and friends lof the deceased, members the association tendered its deepest sympathy and condolence. The council desired to record its appreciation of the efforts of the hon. registrar, Mr. Isaac Salek, whose work in the interests of the association had been so largely responsible for the success which had been achieved. i The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £168 14a Bd. The progress made" by the association was the subject of congratulation by the Mayor (Mr. R, A. Wright, M.P.), who said he was very pleased to see the association in such a strong financial position. He felt that the association was proceeding on right lines, and doing good work, and he congratulated the officers on their performance. Commenting on the report, Mr. Salek said that at present there. were associations at Auckland, Wanganui, New Plymouth, and Christchurch. It would be advantageous'to have associations established in the South Island. ■ The report and balance-sheet were adopted. R. D. Hanlon, W H. Coy, F. G. Gray. ■
