DAMAGE NEAR TAUMARUNUI.

TAOMARUNUI, This Day. '-. It is possible now to give some estimate of the damage done by the flood. Farmers on the low-jfying ground near Kakahi, suffered heavily. In one case a' cottage was washed away and another had to be abandoned owing to a landslide. Small bridges were all swept away in the Kakahi district, and the Egmont Box Company lost their bridge. One farmer estimates his losses at £500, and others lost just as heavily. The Taumarunui water supply was cut off for two days, and the electric current was erratic until yesterday afternoon, owing, to damage to the transmission poles. Householders suffered considerably in the low-lying areas of Taumarunui, and ■those whose houses were invaded by water, estimate, the damage in each case at £50. The saleyards also were damaged to the extent of £300.
The total rainfall during the flood period was nearly seven' inches. ;.
