FACILITIES FOR ■'• MOTORISTS.
The monthly meeting of the Wellington. Automobile Club was" held yesterday afternoon in the club's room, Sussex Chambers. Mr. A. J. Toogood occupied - the chair, ■ and there-were also present the following members: Messrs A. J. Curtis, R, Wilson, C. M Banks A. N. Field, V. L. Donne, F. Goldberg, °r- Harty, and J. H. StQtt (secretary)., Mr. .Stott; said that the Automobile Union had asked to be supplied with a list of the dangerous ' railway" crossings m Wellington:,'. Tt'.was stated that the Hutt Road's Committee had undertaken, to supply the'list, but it- had not jo far been' received'. "''. .','.' ' l'' *'" '' . Several members complained abput the use that push-cyclists and. horse-drawn vehicles were making of the new. bitumen .track on the Hutt,road. .One member stated; that on ■ a recent"■ evening, whilst, motoring'along-the. track, he noticed, several cyclists.on,;it..,.'.These ma-chines-were a source of-danger o'n the road*- and ■ he ■■ thought ' that ■ something should b'e done to keep Jie cyclists on the wide track.'provided'for their use. It w'as decided to hold the matter over, pending advice from the cliibVsolicitor. . It was decided. that something.be done to safeguard motor.-car owners from persons taking an unauthorised use of cars when .parked outside a building on the occasion of ..meetings, .etc....Mr. Banks stated that the -Auckland Automobile Club had appointed a man to look after cars at anv uublin gathering. The man appointed had • been'given a retaining fee, but later' had expressed 'himself as being perfectly satisfied v with'the tips he had earned. In Sydney, also, Mr. Banks said that there "were many such men who. operated, in a similar manner in streets in which cars were parked. Seventeen new members were elected, and three resignations were received. A letter received by the secretary from the Royal Automobile-Club; London, offered to makn visiting members -to the British. Empire Exhibition- honorary members of the club during the.Exhibition, on the production of a letter of introduction from .the. secretary. .:T. A reply was received from the Hutfc County Council to the club's letter offering £5 towards the formation of a road on to the beach at Paekakariki. Tha letter stated that at a1 meeting of the council, it had__been_resoJved.._that in. view'of complaints which had. already been received in reference to speeding on the beach,, and the. danger and'annoyance to. bathers" and children, that tha council would take no- action at present. Letters were also received" from the Sis-ter-in-charge; St.: 'Joseph's Orphanage, Upper Hutt; thanking the members o£ * the club for the children's outing provided by .the' club,' and from "the" Wellington Hospital Board thanking mem.bers for similar assistance, and for gifts of sweets. ..:"*:..
