PROPOSAL FOR GOVERNMENT' AID.
INVERCARGILL, 7th April. The Eiverton" Progress League formed a deputation to Mr. Massey to-day, M* J. C. ; Thompson. M.P., said that an English company, including several New Zealanders, had spent £10,000 oh shale works some years ago, and were prepared to reopen them if the Government offered sufficient inducement by assisting them with-a duty on mineral oils, the admission of machinery duty free, a honus *m oil produced, and special 'railway freights. v ■ ,Mr. Rae said that no .mineral oil was produced in the. country.
