THE CITY ENGINEER
ANOTHER DEVELOPMENT.
. The Mayor (Mr. R. A. Wright) stated this morning that it was very probable that the appointment of a City Engineer would be decided, or, at ariy rate, fully, discussed at Thursday evening's meeting of- the. City Council, not by way of either of the motions, notice of which had been given by Councillor and by himself, but through' another channel. In the meantime he did not care to say anything more definite. Mr. Wright added that a recommend- . tion would be brought down, either at Thursday's- meeting or at an early meet- , i"g^by the Milk Committee that an in--1 dependent committee of inquiry should ue set up to go fully into air aspects of management and policy of the milk department; that the whole position might be placed before citizens. It was felt that a committee composed of business men and citizens of standing could bring down the most useful report on the department, being representative of neither one side nor the other, and consequently reporting to the public an unbiased manner. The following j-esolution was unanimously adopted at a meeting of the Te: Aro Advancement Association in regard to the appointment of a City Engineer:— " Mr. A. J. Paterson having served the city as assistant to the late Mr. Morton for over sixteen years, and later having filled the position of Acting-En-gineer, with credit to himself, and with usefulness, and at a great saving to the city, we consider he should receive the appointment, which is shortly to be made, and* be given an opportunity to •develop the local knowledge and engineering ability he .undoubtedly possesses "
