TAXATION COMMISSION

FARMERS SEEK REPRESENTATION.

(BI TELEGRAPH.—MESS ASSOCIATION.)

INVERCARGILL, 6th April. Telegrams concerning the personnel of the Taxation Commission have passed between Mr,. Polsou, president of the Farmers' Union, and the Prime Minister. The following communication was received by Mr. Jlassey from Mr. Poison:

"Strong feeling on the part of my organisation Uiat in view of propaganda to increase the producers' taxation, farmers' interests should be directly represented on the Taxation Commission. as well as'city interests. Certain of the provincial districts have asked me to represent this to you."

To this Mr. Massey has replied in the tollowing terms: "Your telegram received. It has been the aim of the Government in setting up the Taxation Commission to. avoid anything in the nature of party or sectional feeling. Hence the selection of a Judge of the Supreme Court as chairman, and the appointment of four reliable and experienced business men to the Commission, all of whom have a sound knowledge of economics. This appears to me" to be the best way of (jetting recommendations which will be of value to the Government in submitting the necessary legislation to Parliament next session. The Commission will bo very glad to have representatives of farmers'organisations giving evidence along with .representatives of other sections of the community. The subject is of great importance, and reiimrcs to be thoroughly ventilated in order 10 enable (lie )nib\k: to'7oim ;■ correct judgment as to the present position • hihJ ■ thn bust wiiv of vciudyinu anomalies, that esigt"- "
