KARORI V. HUTT

OPEN THEIR SEASONS.

Tcleal conditions ruled on Saturday afternoon in spite oE. the very threatening prospects at about noon. Hutt and Karori Clubs opened their seasons with mixed foursomes, and the afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed at both links. ' At the Hutt visitors noticed a very pronounced improvement in the fairways. Sheep have been kept off the links for some time, and the mowing machine has altogether changed the fairways, on which good lies are now the usual thing. Colonel R, O. Chesney, captain of the club, welcomed visitors, and in doing so remarked on the verygood prospects of the club for the season. _ Fifty-two couples took part in the opening foursome, but none of the pairs managed to beat the "Colonel," and the winners proved to be Miss "Williams and W. G. Hughes, 2 down. Five others tied in second pla.ee with, cards showing 3 down.. Most of the visitors found that the greens were quite- beyond them. The competition was conducted by Mr. H S. Maiming .(secretary), and Mrs. J. P. Murphy, and a ladies' committee, entertained visitors at afternoon tea. Next Saturday Hutt will play a silver button medal competition, and early next mouth the interclub matches wifl commence, with Wellington A team playing at Hutt. . , *

There was a good attendance of members and visitors at the Karori opening. The links were in good order, but were still showing signs of the long.dry period. The competition winners were Miss Bray and G. Berry, 2 down. Mrs. Hugo and G. R. Gair were next, 3 down.
