STRUCK BY A BASKET
Aii accident which occurred on a hulk in Wellington on 20th July last year was the subject of 'inquiry by members of the Arbitration Court this mornin^ when Edward Patrick O'Reilly, a hulkkeeper, proceeded against tho TJnjon Steam Ship Co. for compensation. Mr. Justice Frazer'presided, and associated I with him were Messrs. W. Scott, and H Hunter. ' ,™ Vl-£- J- °'Regan. appeared for the plaintiff, and the defendant company was represented by Mr. P. Levi. The statement of claim set out that Oil the date'in question O'Reilly, while working on a hulk, was struck on the chest by a coal basket, and as a result of the injuries received he had been in- ! capacitated. The Court was asked to fix a sum as compensation, based* on the rate of £2 12s 6d per week. The question raised by the defence was whether the plaintiff's condition of health was due to the accident or to old age, the plaintiff being' 73 at the time of the accident. .
