The Government has taken drastic action against wealthy Germans travelling abroad, where their display of luxury has created a bad impression, especially in view of the world-wide appeals on behalf of starving German children. It is estimated that 70,000 Germans are- temporarily abroad. The Finance' Minister points out that the demands of touring Germans for foreign currency make it most difficult to maintain the value of the mark. The Government is therefore'closing, the frontier for two days, and has decided to charge £25 "for each foreign travel permit, except for business men and invalids making compulsory journeys.
