DEATH OF A WOMAN IN HOSPITAL.
.(BY TELEGRAPH.—rUBSS ASSOCIATION.) ' DUNEDIN, 31st March. .An inquest was held before Mr Bundle, S.M. (sitting as Coroner), at the Dunedm Hospital this morning on the body of Winifred Jessamine Chambers, 31 years of age, who died in-the institution on Friday evening. Deceased was respondent in a divorce case which was heard in February of this year, a decree nisi being granted. Sergeant Dunlop represented the police and Mr G. W. Baylee appeared ..for deceased's husband, Clarence Chambers, a butcher residing in Arthur street, who identified the body as that of his wife. lie said that he last saw her in Oamaru on 4th November, 1923. They separated in May, 1920, at Dunedin, and since then they had lived apart. Dr. Perry, assistant medical officer at tne hospital, said that on 13th March deceased was admitted, apparently suffering from general peritonitis, and was acutely ill. An immediate operation was performed, and there was a slight improvement for. ten days. Then she became worse, and died at 6.30 p m on 28th March. In the opinion of witness dearth was due to, heart failure following peritonitis. 6 L D. r- Iv, el!a<:ll > house surgeon, said that he had charge of deceased from the timeof her admittance. He confirmed the evidence of Dr. Perry. She haa been separated from her husband for some' years. She did not give any information respecting her husband's whereabouts ' thi' v&i 'vr'" 0*, 1 Pa^og'sV stated I that on 29th March he made a post-1 mortem examination in company with Dr Drennaa. Deceased had acute peritonitis. There-was no evidence of -any instrumental interference. The Coroner adjourned tha inquest sine die. - - v
