MORNINGTON ACCESS
ROAD OR ROUTE?
CONSTRUCTION OF TRAMWAY.
A deputation from the Vogeltown and Mormngton Ratepayers' Association wailed on the Tramways Committee this afternoon to urge the construction of the Vogeltown-Mornington road Mr. R. M'Keen, M.P.. sa id that the deputation had been referred to the Irani ways Committee by the Works Committee, but the chairman (the Mayor, Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.) pointed out that the Tramways Committee had no authority over a matter of roading construction.
Mr. M'Keen urged that the tramway Ije laid as soon as possible, and that provision, be made for the' work on the estimates for the coming financial year. The secretary of the association, Mr. W. Jameson, said that it seemed to be a question as to.whether a road or a route was proposed. The Works Committee, took it that it was to be a route for a tramway line, similar to that on the Wadestown line, and that was the reason why they had been referred to the Tramways Committee. • The deputation urged that it should be a route. 1 lie deputation protested against a proposal to erect a garage in a place where it was contended would interfere with the route proposed. The Mayor stated in reply that the representations would be considered: The committee was only concerned with tramway matters and could not encroach upon the preserves of another committee. He would go into the question, which involved the taking of certain property, with the chairman of the Works Committee, and see what could be .done. The completion of the road had beeii held up by the necessity for purchasing property.
