PAREMATA BOATING CLUB

Weather conditions were not of the best last week-end for the_ races sailed under the auspices of the' Paremata Boating Club. A. strong wind prevented the Plimmerton boats , from ' taking part. Only three boats faced ilie starter, Mr. Sterling's Queenie (scr), Mn Marshall's Desert Gold (scr), and Mr. H. France's Sea Lady (2min). Desert Gold was too well reefed, with the result that the other boats left her behind. Her skipper, when well up the course, preferred to. shake .out his reefs, but a strong puff of wind splitthe mainsail and ended his day's racings Queenie maintained the lead ■ for the remainder of the course, and won. There was a "field" of ten boats in the race for motor launches—Mr. E. O'Connor's Titania (scr), Mr. Barber's Tui (7min), Mr... Kirkstain's Onward (smin), Mr. Hendersons Thistle (6min), Mr. M'Pherson's Paremata (9min), Mr. M'Keever.'a Moki (9min), Mr. Trevor's Neta (lOmin), Mr. Shearer's' Robert E. Loe (llmin), Mr. M'Kenzie's Wee Elsie * (15mm), and Messrs. Beck and Co.V Bubble (15min). The event was spoilt by ..heavy rain. The first round saw Bubble in the lead, followed a minute later by V/e c Elsie. The others were very close. Tui was the winner, Neta being second, Onward third, and Pareiuatii fourth.
