Mr. C. H. Treadwell (president of the Hutt Club), in. receiving the cup, said that out of those little bowling parties organised by the late Mr. Duthie on his own green at the Hutt had arisen the Lower Hutt Bowling Club. Mr. Duthie had been the only patron the club had up till the time of his death, and it was whilst holding that position he had presented the cup to the three clubs he had belonged to—first Wanganui, then Wellington, and lastly Lower Hutt Club—and it was done to engineer a spirit of. comradeship between the three clubs. The gathering concluded with the singing of " Auld Lang Syne " and the National Anthem. .
