NIGHT ATTACK AT NEWTOWN PARK

S.O.S. SIGNALS.

A sensational night attack will be seen at Newtown Park next Saturday night. One of the most interesting features of the ten Pageant and Tournament programmes will be a realistic reproduction of a night attack, such a s those in which, many thousands of New Zealand's soils took part in France and other. theatres of war. The public will be introduced to barrage fire, wire entanglements, zero hour, Verey lights, s.o.s. rockets, ambulanco work, taking of prisoners, and other details of thrilling episodes of war.

Territorials of the First Battalion, Wellington Regiment, will carry out the attack, supported by'the gunners of the Fifth and Nineteenth Batteries. The guns used will be 6prs., a battery of ISprs. (the guns which did such faithful work in France), and 60prs. The Versy lights and s.o.s. rockets have been obtained from the War Office, and are exactly the same as those used in France and other theatres of war. The Verey lignt is shot up from a lin pistol, and gives a dazzling light. The s.o.s. rockets are used only when an attack begins. On bursting in the air they form coloured balls of fire, which, suspended by a small parachute, continue to float in the air a considerable time. The tank lias been faithfully reproduced ill everv detail by the Works Section, Royal N.Z. Artillery. The power is supplied "by a Dodge motor-lorry chassis kindly lent by Magnus Motors, Ltd. ' " .

The troops taking part in the attack will be equipped exactly as they would have been for a similar show in France, with the exception that no entrenching tool is carrifed, as this has become obsolete since the war.

Dress will be fighting order, and box respirators (more commonly known at gas masks) will be carried.
