HUMPHREY BISHOP COMPANY.
The box plan in connection with the Wellington season of the Humphrey Bishop English Comedy Company opened at The Bristol this morning. The Wellington season will commence next Saturday at the Grand Opera House. Comedy is the keynote of the performance, and with such an array of comedians as Robert Roberts, Edward Elliott, Harry Avondale, and George Ross there is hardly likely ts be a dull moment throughout the programme. Although comedy and laughter predominate there will be no dearth of the better class of music—indeed the vocal side is particularly strong. The grand opera excerpts from "Faust," "II Trovatore," "Tannhanser," etc., are regarded as exceptionally fine numbers and never fail to win enthusiastic applau.se. Walter Kingsley, a soloist of no mean order, is also associated with Maurice Jaffev (tenor) in some delightful duets. The ladies of the company, Misses Lalie White (soprano), Louise Meadows (soprano)—specialists and sketch artist—Mahana Ney (songs and monologues at the piano), Doris Henderson (pianist), Ol.sa Dunn (contralto), Sybil Veraey (soubrelte), Hilda Rox (soubrette), are all star performers in their own lines, as well as, of course, appearing in concerted numbers, and some striking ensembles. In the latter the beautiful dresses worn by the ladies are a feature. The original ragtime quartette is a feature, while the orchestra under the direction of Mr. Humphrey Bishop, is in keeping with the high standard reached by the artists on the stage. '
