DRAMATIC PURSUIT

HAMBURG TO SICJLY

FORGER ARRESTED AT END OF QUEST.

(DOTTED PSBSS ASSOCIATION.—COPIRIGBT.) (AUiTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, 9th February. The "Daily Telegraph" correspondent in Borne reports that a banker's long and dramatic pursuit of an alleged forger was revealed by the arrest of a couple in Messina.. Herr Seitz, director of the Deutsche Bank at Hamburg, became suspicious of a trusted employee after the cashing of five cheques for 250,000 gold marks by forging the banker's signature. Seitz, on .learning that the fugitive had gone to Cologne in order to fetch his young wife, hired an aeroplane and flew to Cologne. The couple meantime had gone to Munich. The banker hired the fastest motor-car and ascertained on arrival that the couple had just left Munich by express train for Italy. Seitz secured legal documents and the services of a special policeman, and then caught the Rome express. The couple continued their journey to Sicily, a fact which was revealed by the man having changed money in a Naples bank. Seitz continued the pursuit to Messina, where he inquired at the hotels, and found the couple leaving for Syracuse, to sail for Malta. The banker rushed to the station and procured the arrest of the fugitives just as they were about to take the train. . j
