MASTER CARRIERS' PICNIC

The Wellington Master Carriers'. Association held its tliird annual picnic on Wednesday, and all who participated acclaimed it as one of the most successful ' ever. held. The 500 picnickers assembled ,at the post office, where 30 motor-lorries and 15 motor-cars were in attendance to convey them to the Hutt Park. Before starting, on the* day's outing all the children were presented with a flag and trumpet, then the procession proceeded through the. town by I way of Courtenay place. A treasure hunt was participated in by the children ,in a manner which would have done credit to the modern detective. It was apparent from the happy countenance of the children that the toys distributed free met with their full approval. The sports events for children and adults were eagerly contested, many of* the events causing no end of merriment. lif'view of the early departure of Mr. T. A. Munt (late president) for an extended tour of Great Britain and America, Mr. D. J. M'GoVran (president), on behalf of the master carriers of Wellington, presented Mr. Munfi with an illuminated address and a Petone travelling rug. Mr. M'Gowan referred to the recipient's sterling gifts of mind and character that had enabled him to render invaluable services in the formation and maintenance of the association. The following were the prize-winners :—soyds Wheelbarrow Race: D. Keddell' 1, N. Bell 2. Sack Race, 50yds (men): Craighead 1, E. Bell 2; Blindfold Pick-a-back, 50yds (men): Bell and Henderson. Egg and Spoon Race, 25 yards: Miss J. Sutherland 1, Miss Bit; . ters 2. Relay Race: KeddellV team. 400 yds Walk Handicap (men over 40 years): Thomas 1, Lepper 2.
