ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES

WANGANUI, 29th January. A conference of delegates attending the New Zealand Amateur Swimmingchampionships was held to-day. Mr. W. E. D. .- Bishop (Christchurch) presided, and there were also present:— Messrs. D. Mulvihill and F. J. Boggs (Auckland), E. D. Berry (South (Auckland), H. le Bas and C. L. Crooks (Hawkes Bay), H. J. Parsonage (Manawatu), J. Reid and A. Muller (Wanganui), V. Allen and V. N. Beasley (Wellington), C. Atkinson and D. Coulter (Canterbury), F, J. Dunn (South Canterbury), F. Dunn, jun., and B. O'Neill. The following remits were moved by representatives of the associations stated:— - Hawkes Bay: "That the council of the N.Z.A.S.A. supply all centres with a complete schedule of all alterations or amendments which have been made to the rules as published in the official handbook." Carried.. Wanganui: "That in tin* interests of the youthful members of the swimming clubs in their home town, and as travelj ling representatives, the beverages used jat any functions . held under the auspices of the Swimming Association should be confined to those that are strictly non-intoxicating." Carried. Canterbury and Hawkes Bay put in claims for the 1925 championship meeting. A vote ,was taken, and by 8 votes to 5 it was decided to hold the next championships at Christchurcfi. Mr. Reid moved that the matter be held over for twelve months, the council in the meantime to draw up a schedule allocating the championships for five years. This was agreed to. Hawkes Bay t "That the profits of all national championship meetings he divided_ in the following proportions, namely; 75 per cent, to the centre conducting the, meeting and 25 per cent, to the council of the N.Z.A.S.A." Carried. Canterbury: "That the junior hoys' 440 yards championship be deleted, and that a 220 yards championship be substituted; that the 880 yards boys' championship intermediate be deleted and a 440 yards, be substitued." Carried. Canterbury : "That the New Zealand record' certificates, standard caps, and badges that have, been already won ha issued." Carried. J Canterbury: "That'the remit passed at the last annual conference of cen-1 tres providing for a national standard of handicapping be immediately given effect to.". Carried. Canterbury: "That a plunging championship be added to the' list of New Zealand championships'." Lost. j , Hawkes Bay: "That the following! addition be made to sub-rule 3 of rule 17, "Any. affiliated club desiring to hold a race meeting shall make application at least fourteen days prior to the date of the proposed meeting to the centre having control of such club for a permit to hold.such meeting." Withdrawn. Wanganui: "That it be a recommendation to the council- that a small troupe of swimmers and divers be brought over from Australia for a tour of the Dominion." Carried. Wellington: "That a permanent han- I dicapper be appointed, by the council for the Kellerman "Cup race." Carried. Canterbury: "That the 75 yards girls' intermediate championship be deleted and a 220 yards championship be substituted." Carried.. ' Auckland: "That the New Zealand Council's attention he drawn to the poor quality of the championship medals, and that an improvement be' asked for it." It was stated that a better class of medal was now available, and the remit was withdrawn. Auckland: "That the entrance fee for the New Zealand championships be reduced to ss."'. Carried. ■"■' Auckland: "That the time is now due when the Government should appoint a swimming instructor for each Island." It was decided to refer the matter to the committee already set up. _ Mr. Reid expressed regret'at the retirement from competitive swimming of Misses Hoeft and Walrond, and moved that appreciation of their past services to swimming be Tecorded. Mr. Atkinson said he was sorry he could not support it. It would be a precedent to record the efforts of competitors! who retired voluntarily. A lot of people did a great deal for swimming, and did not look for honours. Mr. Mulvihill eaid that m justice to^the Auckland Centre the matter might' have been delved into further. He proceeded to supply the meeting with certain information, the outcome of which was the withdrawal of the motion.'
