(Received.3oth January, 1 p.m.) LONPON, "29th January. In the teriji.s for the settlement of the railway strike the railway companies declare that it has never been contended that the decisions of the Wages Bpard were obligatpry, but tijey were justified jn' giving effect to them. The companies were prepared to ajjeyiate any ji.ardsjiip which it was represented wpujd be invpiyed in the decision tp the drjygrsand firemen on the mileage basis, so .that 130 miles'jwas equal to "one day's pay, I hut the mileage would be increased to H4o.i n July, 1924, .and 150 in January, 1925, unless in the interval it was agreed otherwise. The companies under^ take that there shall be no dismissals arising out of the .application of the decision, and all strikers ■ presenting themselves for worji within a reasonable time will be reinstated .as soon as practicable without preference to seniority. The signatories agree tp'use every endeavour to secure that all rajlwaymen work together amicably, and any proyed breach of this condition will be a case for .disciplinary action by the companies.
